Last season the Los Angeles Lakers finished at 17-65, the worst record in franchise history.  They have a lot of young players including new franchise cornerstone D’Angelo Russell, but training them took a back seat to Kobe Bryant’s farewell tour and now Russell is ready for a fresh start.

I initially thought Byron Scott was saving face during exit interviews when he said he was sure the Lakers would retain him for the final year on his contract as head coach of the team.  As everyone else expected, the Lakers fired Scott and later hired Luke Walton.  In an interview with The Dan Patrick Show, Scott discussed his feelings on the Lakers.

Byron Scott took over and led the Los Angeles Lakers to their worst two seasons in franchise history, finishing at 38-126.  Granted Kobe Bryant took much of their salary cap and the last season was dedicated to his farewell, Scott was criticized for his contradictory statements and unwillingness to properly develop the young players.  Despite all that, Scott is sure the Lakers will retain him as the head coach and as for his critics?  Well Scott says he’s smarter than all of them.
