The Houston Texans signed Brock Osweiler to a four-year, $72 million contract after a small showing with the Peyton Manning-less Denver Broncos, but their gamble didn’t quite work out. Though they gave Osweiler a franchise contract, he is not their franchise quarterback.
With Peyton Manning now retired, the Denver Broncos looked to work out a deal with Brock Osweiler. He instead came to an agreement with the Houston Texans on a four-year, $72 million deal, leaving the Broncos without a quarterback.
If Peyton Manning is on the Denver Broncos roster as of March 9th, the team will owe him about $19 million dollars for next season. Considering he didn’t look great in the playoffs and is still reportedly undecided about his retirement, the team likely has no choice but to cut him and they have made their own decision to move forward with Brock Osweiler.
Aside from cashing checks to do nothing, it must suck being Peyton Manning’s backup knowing you’ll never get in the game unless something catastrophic happens. Yesterday as the Denver Broncos were annihilating the Oakland Raiders, Brock Osweiler thought his time had finally come but Manning had other plans.
