It is funny that a story centered around the word “respect” could come off as so disrespectful and condescending. I know by now all you guys heard about ESPN ranking Kobe 40th in this years edition of the NBA player rankings. Whether you love or hate Kobe, the rank caused a huge uproar across all of social media. Kobe replied by calling them “idiots” when asked about his spot on the list, and that should of been the end of that. But someone at ESPN felt the need to keep it going and write a story about respect, while seemingly disrespecting one of the greatest players ever.

So, our boy Kobe teamed up with NikeiD to develop a contest via Twitter for fans to customize a pair of Kobe 8 using the Los Angeles Lakers “Home” colorways. The #COUNTONKOBEID contest was personal being that Kobe himself would pick the winner and promised to wear the customized sneakers. While many entered the contest, there was only one the winner Luis Garcia from Inglewood, Calif. Kobe being a man of his word, kept his promised and wore the kicks during Sunday nights game against the Chicago Bulls. I guess those sneakers were lucky because Kobe and the Los Angeles Lakers beat the Chicago Bulls 90-81. Check out the pics after the jump…
