Kelly Rowland was the featured performer this past Mother’s Day weekend at the Magpie Nest Housing Project in Melbourne, Australia. The special concert was put together by the charity-based organization, and ended up raising a whopping $800,000 for them, which will go toward homeless families, helping to place all the necessary supports around a resident to increase the possibility of them addressing their issues and moving forward with their lives. “I was delighted to support a program that provides housing for the people of Melbourne without homes,” Kelly said of the effort. Today, Australia served as a terrifying place for more than 40 individuals. A standoff between a man identified as an Iranian refugee named, Man Haron Monis and Commando police officers. Monis had forced hostages to hold up Islamic flags in the Lindt Chocolat Cafe in Sydney’s Martin Place. Heavily armed paramilitary officers, snipers and a swat team surrounded the shop and during the standoff, at least five of the hostages were able to escape. More details after the jump.
