DeRay McKesson, a prominent figure in the Black Lives Matter movement, was arrested along with 200 people during peace protests from July 6 – 11 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and according to him, unlawfully. He’s not letting this one go as he moves forward to sue the police force himself.
This is pretty big. Never expected the ‘Teen Choice Awards’ to touch base on something so sensitive such as innocent lives being taken away by police. Alton Sterling’s son, Cameron Sterling made an appearance at the award show. As part of a section during the ceremony, they did a call for peace in which they featured many other children. I’m glad that ceremony’s such as TCA can touch on topics such as this without being afraid of what society feels should should be kept away from children.
Remember Christopher LeDay? He is the man who is responsible for making the Alton Sterling video go viral. But as the cliche goes, no good deed goes unpunished. After posting the video to his Facebook account, LeDay was met by police at his place of work the next day. There he was arrested for assault charges along with a whole lot of charges which failed to have any merit. Since the incident LeDay is still out of a job and him and his attorney are fighting to change that. Check in after the jump for more on the story.
The Game has always been one to speak out about injustices in the black community. Today the LA native had Jeremih join him in this song about anti-police brutality and they both expressed the pain of what is going on today, highlighting the shootings of Alton Sterling and Philandro Castille. Much respect to The Game for using his platform to bring attention to these issues and rest in peace to the fallen victims of police brutality around the country.
