In a tweet of his Oscars promo video, Chris Rock called the highly criticized awards show “The White BET Awards.” Some may take this statement as him simply stating that this show is doing for caucasians exactly what the BET Awards does for African-Americans, while others have taken it as a shot at the Oscars.
Take Two: Chris Rock Will Host The 2016 Academy Awards
Chris Rock made history as the first black host of the Academy Awards back in 2005. The beloved comedian announced today he is returning for round two, and will be hosting this year’s telecast. He made the announcement via Twitter, stating “Look who’s back #Oscars” The Academy producers and CEO praised Rock for his talent and credentials calling him and industry MVP. Oscars producers David Hill and Reginald Hudlin said, “Comedian, actor, writer, producer, director, documentarian — he’s done it all,” adding, “He’s going to be a phenomenal Oscar host!” “Chris may be best known as a stand-up comic, but we think of him as a creative innovator in many other ways. He is unafraid in his artistry,” said Academy CEO Dawn Hudson. You can catch Chris Rock hosting the awards when it airs on February 28th.

Talk-show host Chelsea Handler always seems to be involved in some sort of controversy. After the Sunday night’s Academy Awards, she’s under fire yet again. During the award show, Handler was tweeting about the Oscars via Huffington Post’s official Twitter account. Basically the whole night, she was cracking jokes on all of the black winners such as Lupita Nyong’o, Sidney Poitier and many more. Of course the jokes were tacky, but I’m pretty sure that’s just Chelsea’s whole demeanor and that she meant no harm.
