Ever since talk show host Wendy Williams was given the title as a producer for Lifetime’s Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B biopic movie, she made sure things went her way. Prior to earning a spot onboard the making of the movie, Williams was extremely vocal about her hopes and expectations for the film. The one thing she was huge on was to make sure the movie showed the story of Aaliyah’s relationship with singer R. Kelly. When Kellz was 27, he married Aaliyah who was only 15 at the time. Without a doubt, this was a huge part of Aaliyah’s life that all of her fans are extremely curious to know more about. “We let you know what happened with Aaliyah and R. Kelly,” Williams said. “Nothing is distasteful. You don’t want to be distasteful, but you need to tell a story.” The movie is set to air on November 15th on the Lifetime Network. RIP, Baby Girl!
The forthcoming Aaliyah biopic has been shrouded in controversy since its inception, as the late singer’s family is not in support of the film, and have spoke out numerous times on their stance. For this reason, plus the backlash of many protective fans, Disney star Zendaya Coleman decided to drop out of the lead role early on. Lifetime still pushed on, however, and will finally be debuting Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B on Saturday, November 15. The film’s new star, newcomer Alexandra Shipp, recently sat down with Entertainment Tonight’s Kevin Frazier, and spoke on the controversial role. Check out what she said below.
Another controversial biopic is ready to release. Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B is scheduled to premiere on Lifetime Network, November 15 8/7c. Playing the, “One in a Million” songstress will be Alexandra Shipp, an actress who seriously serves an uncanny resemblance to Aaliyah.
