On this day in 2002, Jam Master Jay was shot and killed at his recording studio in New York City. He was 37 years old. DJ for the legendary group Run-DMC, Jam Master Jay was also known for starting his own successful music label & launching the careers of artist such as 50 cent. To this day no one has been convicted for his murder. Today, marks the 13th anniversary of his death and rather then dwell on his passing IFWT celebrates his life and mark he left on hip-hop. Riot Squad head honcho Stack Bundles would have been celebrating his 32nd birthday today on October 21st but unfortunately, his life was taken too soon back in 2007 at the age of 24. It has been an extremely difficult year for the entire Riot Squad family after Chinx was murdered in Queens back in May, but the legacy of these two will never be forgotten! Kendrick Lamar Pays Tribute To Eazy-E In An Open Letter
Paper Magazine is paying homage to those rappers that paved the way for hip-hop by sharing open letters written by today’s artists. Kendrick Lamar who also recently shared a letter dedicated to Tupac, payed tribute the late rapper Eazy-E sharing the influence the N.W.A rapper had, saying, “I wouldn’t be here today if it wasn’t for Eazy.” In addition to Kendrick Lamar, in upcoming features, fellow rappers Eminem and Swizz Beats will also share their thoughts and feelings about fallen rappers and how they were influenced by them.
