According to MetroStore Scanner, Microsoft’s Windows Store has reached over 50,000 apps. The current total of apps available is 50,304. March has been a great month for the Windows Store with an average of 279 apps being developed each day. This increase could have something to do with the contest Microsoft is doing which offers developers $100 per app they develop for Windows 8 and a 80% split for money generated by their app, more than what Apple offers its developers.
Apple Buys WHAT Startup Company For $20 Mill?!?
Apple has acquired WiFiSlam, a company who makes a GPS app that lets smartphones locate themselves indoors using WiFi signals, for $20 million. WiFiSlam is two years old company that has already raised funding from investors and have a few ties with Google. Apple’s New Patent Protects Your Phone From WHAT?!?
Apple has just received a patent for a protective mechanism for an electronic device. The patent is for a mechanism that will change the position of the falling phone in mid fall so it doesn’t damage the glass screen. A sensor within the device should send a signal to determine when it should activate the mechanism.
Bing Adds More Search Results
Bing is adding more information from social networks like Facebook and Twitter into how it displays search results involving people. The changes were created to give users a wider glance to answers they search for. Microsoft Defends Its Product!!!
Windows RT has had it share of criticism since it was released but Microsoft is standing by its product. Michael Angiulo, Microsoft’s corporate vice president of Windows planning, told CNet that, “If you look forward a year or two and you look at the performance output of ARM chips, those are some really capable chips,” Angiulo said. “I think it has a very bright future.” But many analysts beg to differ, calling for Microsoft to abandon the operating system before its too late.
WOW!!! She Was FIRED For Sending A TWEET!?!?!
Software developer, Adria Richards was fired this week after she tweeted a photo of someone at a conference that had made sexual jokes. She was attending the PyCon conference for program developers,she overheard two men behind her making jokes. She decided to take a picture of the two men and post it on twitter. Adria wrote,”Not cool. Jokes about forking repo’s in a sexual way and “big” dongles. Right behind me #pycon.” This action let to one of the men being fired.
