#IFWT Classic Video: Naughty By Nature – O.P.P

O.P.P.” is a 1991 song recorded by rap group Naughty by Nature. The song made it to the U.S. Top Ten (peaking at #6), propelling their self titled album Naughty by Nature to platinum status. The song’s declaration “Down Wit’ OPP” was a popular catchphrase in the U.S. in the early-’90s. Its beat is sampled from Melvin Bliss’ “Synthetic Substitution”, with instrumentation samples from Jackson 5’s “ABC” in which Alphonzo Mizell, Freddie Perren, Deke Richards, and Berry Gordy Jr. got a writing credit for the song. It was a hugely successful single, asAllmusic described “There was not a bigger, more contagious crossover radio smash in the autumn of 1991 than Naughty by Nature’s ‘O.P.P.” (If You Have A Favorite Classic Video Let Us Know) Posted By: @djmikesessions (Check Out Video After Jump)

#IFWT Classic Video: De La Soul – Buddy

Buddy” is the third single released by De La Soul from their album 3 Feet High and Rising. The song is often cited as an example of an effective remix; one that includes a change of song lyrics or beat. In this case, both the original song’s lyrics and the musical bed received a make over. With its Taana Gardner sampling bassline, the 7 minute 12″ version was clearly tailor-made for dancefloors and provided a striking contrast to the laid back album version. The song was also famous for featuring the major members of the Native Tongues posse, including Q-Tip of A Tribe Called Quest, Jungle Brothers, Queen Latifah and Monie Love. While Phife appears in the video itself and is heard in the extended mix, the mix in the video eliminates his entire verse.
