When cruising at 15.53 miles per hour or slower, an electric car runs virtually silent. Once over that speed, road noise and air moving over the car begin to become prevalent and the car can be “heard” as it travels down the road. That silent running is an intriguing part of the electric car world, but it’s problematic, mostly because those speeds are generally reserved for traffic-clogged cities, parking lots and other areas where pedestrian foot traffic meets automotive.
Audi has now launched its iPhone CarMonitor app, which claims to deliver close monitoring of key vehicle functions, data logging with GPS and the ability to find your vehicle in most any parking lot. The application works with the car’s OBD-II port to access and analyze performance data on the fly. The app will also measure and monitor CO2 data, showing motorists how their driving style affects fuel consumption and pollution levels. App owners can also upload their vehicle data to www.MyAudiLabs.com to share their performance and emissions data with the world. @TatWza
