The Heisman Trophy Trust is expected to strip former University of Southern California star running back Reggie Bush of college football’s top honor by the end of September, sources told Yahoo! Sports. Bush would become the first player in the 75-year history of the award to have the trophy taken away. Sources said the trust will relieve Bush of the award and leave the honor for that 2005 season VACANT! The Heisman trust has been conducting its own investigation  into Bush’s eligibility since the NCAA ruled in June that the USC star had committed multiple violations by accepting cash, gifts and other impermissible benefits while playing for the Trojans. Bush, now a standout with the Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints, could not immediately be reached for comment. —Sabrina B.
“I’m coming home baby!!! Revis Island. Let’s Go,” Revis tweeted shortly after midnight. Revis will sign a four-year contract.  It’s a $46 million deal, including $32 million in various guarantees.  Under his old contract, Revis was due to make $21 million over the next three years, all of which was guaranteed until he didn’t show up for training camp, voiding the guarantee. After a long holdout that resulted in $578,305 in fines, Revis secured $11 million in additional guarantees while committing an extra year to the team. After a seven-month stalemate cornerback  Darelle Revis agreed in principle Sunday night on a new contract, the team announced early Monday morning.  Revis, whose holdout lasted 35 days, is expected to fly to New Jersey Monday to sign the contract. Barring any holdups, the All-Pro will be on the field in time to have a full week of preparation for the season opener against the Ravens a week from Monday. —Sabrina B.

QB Ben Roethlisberger suspension has been cut from six games to four by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.  He met with Goodell early today and was told he could return on Oct. 17 against Cleveland. Roethlisberger was suspended in April for violating the league’s personal conduct policy. He was accused of sexually assaulting a Georgia college student following a night of drinking in a Milledgeville, Ga., bar on March 5. He was not charged by Georgia authorities.  Roethlisberger is the first player suspended by Goodell under the NFL’s personal conduct policy who was not arrested, charged with or convicted of a crime. —Sabrina B.
