After Mac Miller and Machine Gun Kelly took home the “Social Star” award in 2012 and 2013, respectively, the BMI Hip-Hop/R&B Awards are looking for 2014’s winner. Nominated for the accolade are singer/actress Zendaya (who made headlines this year because of the Aaliyah biopic drama,) August Alsina, Sage The Gemini and Rich Homie Quan. Fans can vote here as many times as you’d like through August 19, and the winner will be revealed when the 2014 BMI Hip-Hop/R&B Awards go down on Friday, August 22 in Hollywood. If you guesstimate via social stats, Zendaya will likely take home the award, as she’s in the millions on Facebook, Instagram AND Twitter. Well I guess the young Disney Channel Star couldn’t take the heat. After petitions and racial remarks of Zendaya not being “black enough” for the role of Aaliyah, it seems she has officially given up the role. E! News reports that a representative for the 17-year-old actress says “Zendaya is no longer involved in the project.” Lifetime, who was excited to announce her starring as the lead in the biopic on June 16, has not commented.
