NY Times Features Tyler the Creator as “Angry Rhymes, Dirty Mouth, Goofy Kid”

The lead story in today’s Arts section of the New York Times features Tyler the Creator of Odd Future… & in case you don’t realize, that is a HUGE deal. The story takes a closer look into Tyler’s album Goblin, his lyrics, his crazy character, and the effect of being an overnight-sensation has had on his life. Album Sales Week Ending 4.25.11

Adele is really winning out here. She’s right back at number 1 selling an impressive 153,000 units this week. “Glee Presents the Warblers” debuts at number 2 with 86,000. Rockers The Foo Fighters’ “Wasting Light” takes 3 with 72k, while Disney Channel’s “Lemonade Mouth” soundtrack sells 222% more than last week (thanks to an Easter marathon) landing at number 4 with 69k. Rounding out the top 5 is Brit’s “Femme Fatale” with 45k. At spot 6, Alison Krauss + Union Station’s “Paper Airplane” moves 42k, Mumford & Sons’ “Sigh No More” next up with 39k (they’ve been rocking the top 10 for quite some time now!!), Paul Simon’s “So Beautiful Or So What” at number 8 with 37k. Breezy stays strong at 9, pushing another 37k as well, and his boy Justin Bieber closes out the top 10 with 36k. @MarisaMendez

Rihanna, Eminem, Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars and Justin Bieber lead the finalists for the 2011 Billboard Music Awards, which were announced this morning. Makes sense since this group lead the charts as well! It’s no secret I’m a Nicki fan so I’m quite excited to see the HB has received her first nominations as well! It’s way too many pages to skim through for all the categories but off quick glance I see she’s in the Best New Artist category and Top Rap Album (against her fellow labelmates Drake and Wayne!!) so congrats! Through his 21 videos posted on his YouTube account, Eminem has amassed a total of over 1 BILLION views. The only 2 artists that hit this milestone before him are Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga. 2011 Grammy Awards Prompts Open Letter from Steve Stoute

It was a moment that confused many of us when the 2011 Grammy Award for Best New Artist was announced…and it wasn’t Justin Bieber. And we know this wasn’t the first time something just didn’t seem right at the Grammys!! Well, someone is speaking up about it… Hip Hop marketing mogul Steve Stoute took out a full page ad in Sunday’s New York Times Style Section blasting the Grammy Awards, its parent organizational, The National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS), and its president, Neil Portnow. “The awards show has become a series of hypocrisies and contradictions,” writes Stoute.
