Playoff-clinching party under investigation

Posted by Sabrina B. @gametimegirl Impressionable utes weren’t the only ones watching when Cincinnati Reds owner Bob Castellini (above) passed out victory cigars and then lit up after his team clinched the NL Central title at Great American Ball Park on Tuesday. Also watching at home on television were at least five whistle-blowers who noted that the Reds were violating Ohio’s indoor-smoking ban. Careful what you wish for: Tiger Woods responds to McIlroy’s challenge

Posted by Sabrina B. @gametimegirl Rory McIlroy, the Irish wunderkind, kicked off the verbal sparring a few weeks ago when he told the BBC he “would love to face” Tiger one-on-one in the Ryder Cup. “Unless his game rapidly improves,” McIlroy said, “I think anyone in the European team would fancy their chances against him.” Fancy this, Mr. McIlroy: Woods heard your challenge. When asked at a press conference about McIlroy’s comment that he’d love to face Woods one-on-one, Tiger leaned forward and offered a terse reply: “Me too.” Not bad. Not quite an instant classic like Ivan Drago’s “I must break you” from Rocky IV, but it’ll do for golf’s purposes.

Rangers clinch AL West title after 11 year drought!

Posted By Sabrina B. @gametimegirl OAKLAND, Calif. (AP)—Rangers manager Ron Washington stood in a corner of the crowded clubhouse wearing a champagne-soaked AL West division championship T-shirt. Across the room, Bengie Molina and Vladimir Guerrero danced to Latin music blaring from nearby stereo speakers. Cigars were lit and the sweet smell of celebration wafted through the air. Michael Young and the Rangers became the second team to clinch a spot in the postseason with a 4-3 win over the Oakland Athletics on Saturday, setting off a nearly hour-long party that began on the field shortly after rookie closer Neftali Felix retired Cliff Pennington(notes) for the final out.
