Payback for Dez Bryant: $54K Cowboys dinner bill

Posted by Sabrina B. @gametimegirl At some point, Dallas Cowboys rookie wide receiver Dez Bryant was going to get his comeuppance. Teammate Roy Williams all but guaranteed that during training camp. Bryant made national news in training camp when he refused to carry Williams’ pads after practice — bucking the trend of veteran NFL players hazing rookies. Bryant later said he didn’t know about such tradition. “I’m not doing it,” Bryant said then. “I feel like I was drafted to play football, not carry another player’s pads.” Williams excused it, saying then that Bryant would just have to take the team out to dinner and and get him some new shoes. Well, that dinner happened Monday night. The final tab: $54,896.

Shaq fires back at Kobe over NBA title trash talk …”I compete with Duncan, not Kobe”

Posted by Sabrina B. @gametimegirl NBA superstar Shaquille O’Neal fired a salvo back at former L.A. Lakers teammate Kobe Bryant on Monday about championship bragging rights, sports radio network WEEI said. Speaking at Boston Celtics media day, O’Neal, 38, was asked if he had heard Bryant, 32, bragging about having one more ring than him in the moments immediately after winning another championship in June. “Yeah I heard it,” O’Neal said. “My whole career I’ve been the measuring stick. Glad to see I’m still relevant. “I would’ve been more upset, more hurt, if Tim Duncan would’ve made the comment. I don’t compete with guards. They have the ball more than I do, they shoot way more than I do. You can’t compete with guards. “I’m only competing with Tim Duncan so hopefully I can get number five before Tim Duncan, respectfully before Tim Duncan.”

Phillies clinch 4th straight NL East title with win over Nationals

Posted by Sabrina B. @gametimegirl Ryan Howard is a veteran when it comes to clubhouse celebrations. So the Philadelphia Phillies’ slugging first baseman was well-prepared this time around, holding a smoldering cigar in his right hand and a tall can of beer in his left — and sporting a wide set of ski goggles to protect his eyes from the sting of champagne showers. Howard also knows a fourth consecutive NL East title is not the end-all and be-all for these Phillies, who won the 2008 World Series and lost to the New York Yankees in the 2009 edition. “If you’re not here to try to win a championship, you’re here for the wrong reasons,” said Howard, the 2006 NL MVP. “We feel like we kind of have some unfinished business and have taken the first step to … trying to right that ship.”
