The basketball icon was honored on a crisp evening with a bronze likeness at Staples Center, joining the likes of Magic Johnson, Chick Hearn, Oscar De La Hoya and Wayne Gretzky.

The San Antonio coach selected Spurs star Tim Duncan to replace Yao Ming in the lineup for Sunday’s game at Staples Center, staying in his own locker room instead of picking Los Angeles Clippers star Blake Griffin playing in his home arena orMinnesota Timberwolves double-double machine Kevin Love.

Posted by Sabrina B. @gametimegirl Blake Griffin is going to his first All-Star game, and Kevin Garnett matched an NBA record with his 14th straight selection as one of a record-tying four Boston Celtics selected for the midseason event. Rajon Rondo, Paul Pierce and Ray Allen will accompany Garnett, who equaled Jerry West,Shaquille O’Neal and Karl Malone for the most consecutive selections. The Celtics joined the 2006 Detroit Pistons as the only teams to have four players picked as reserves by the coaches.
