It is inevitable that they will eventually retire a number(s) in his honor. The large debate has been whether the Lakers will retire ‘8’ or ’24’; Kobe has had amazing almost separate careers wearing both numbers so the Lakers might just retire both.

Yesterday I wrote about how Dwyane Wade was likely the first person outside Kobe’s family to know he was going to retire at the end of this season. He told him back in early November, way before Kobe penned his letter for The Players Tribune, in which he told the world he was retiring. As it turns out, his coach Byron Scott also found out before the rest of us (as you would expect) but it came in a very surprising fashion.

In this case though it is a pretty good reason. They just want to see him graduate and there will be no exceptions.

Kobe Bryant announced that he will retire at the conclusion of this season. Since the Lakers suck and will be nowhere near the playoffs, that means Kobe’s final game will be sometime in late April. That may not be his final game ever though since he is still a candidate to make the team that will travel to Rio for the 2016 Summer Olympics.
