Kanye’s song “New Slaves” has a sick sample in it, we know that, but he got sued for taking it from a foreigner’s song without permission.
When Ye released the song off his “Yeezus” album back in 2013, it contained a sample from Hungarian composer Gabor Presser’s 1969 song “Gyöngyhajú Lány” (“The Girl with Pearly Hair”), for which he used for 1 minute and 15 seconds in “New Slaves”. Man does Kanye dig deep lol.
Presser said he didn’t know about the sample until after it was being used for the album’s promotional campaign and says he never signed a licensing agreement with Ye’s team. He was given a $10,000 advance, which he never cashed. After several failed negotiation attempts, the Hungarian artist filed a $2.5 million copyright infringement lawsuit, as the trial was supposed to start May 15th.
Kanye and Presser settled on an out of court agreement on Monday, two days before a deposition. The details of the settlement have not been disclosed.
