In 2015, popular dancehall artist Vybz Kartel was sentenced to life for his involvement in a murder the year prior. He is eligible for parole in 35 years, but he’d like another shot at life, and has just been granted leave to appeal the conviction and sentence, along with three other men who were involved as well.

“It’s the first but critical step in the appeal process,” Kartel’s attorney said.

The attorney of one of his cohorts added, “They stand a good chance of winning the appeal.”
