Last week, Beyoncé shocked (and delighted) the world when she announced that she and Jay Z are expecting twins. Guess who was just as shocked at the SAME time as all of us spectators were? Her very own father. Damn.

“I was shocked. Let me tell you what happened. I got a first text, and I was like, ‘Why is this person saying congratulations?’” Mathew Knowles told The Insider. “Then I get a second text from one of my students at Texas Southern, and I was like, ‘What are you talking about?’ He was like, ‘Go to the web.’ I didn’t know myself.”

He says he thinks the way she did the announcement was “smart,” though, so he doesn’t have any hard feelings. He also said he called her right after, and their convo went like this:

“I was like ‘B,’ [and] she said, ‘Hi, Dad.’ I was like, ‘You’re okay?’ Because she sounded a little tired because she’s working on the Grammy performance. We just had a wonderful daughter-dad conversation. [But] I’m not gonna tell you all of that.”

The pair haven’t had the best relationship over the years, but at least they do have a relationship at all!
