19-year-old Northwestern Basketball Wildcat, Jordan Hankins, was found dead in her room on Monday, January 9th. Authorities have ruled her death a suicide.
According to TMZ, The coroner has ruled out foul play in Hankins’ death, citing suicide having hung herself in her dorm room.
Jordan played a good game against Maryland on Saturday with an average of 3.6 points per game after her 11 games played as a sophomore and 3.8 as a freshman last year. Clearly the Indianapolis native’s death has been a shock to the community.
“We are heartbroken and deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Jordan Hankins,” Northwestern athletic director Jim Phillips said in a statement. “Our love and thoughts are with her family, teammates and friends. … Our department is solely focused on supporting those who adored her.”
Northwestern coach Joe McKeown called Hankins “remarkably dynamic.”
“This is a devastating loss for our basketball family,” he said. “She brought an unwavering intensity and commitment to everything in her life. We will miss her enormously.”
