Just an hour into the New Year, a gunman shot up a club in Istanbul. The shooting left 39 people dead. Turkish police have recently released a few new images Monday showing an unidentified man believed to be the killer. Eight people have been taken into custody at Istanbul’s police headquarters for questioning.
ISIS has claimed responsibility for the attack. They called it a “heroic soldier of the caliphate.” 35-year-old Jake Raak survived the attack. He says,
“When he shot me I didn’t move — I just let him shoot me. I was shot when I was already on the ground. He was shooting people that he had already shot.”
Raak’s mother said her son was struck in the leg after a bullet pierced his phone. Raak is a PA native who went to visit with some friends.
