In a recent interview, Roc-A-Fella co-founder Kareem ‘Biggs’ Burke explained the reasoning behind Jay Z not recording a Nas diss over BDP’s “The Bridge Is Over” beat.
Biggs says Jay recorded “Super Ugly” and that on the way home, he had the idea for Jay to record over “The Bridge Is Over.” He states,
“I was like ‘Yo, ‘The Bridge Is Over.’ He was like, ‘Yeah, that’s it.’ But when we called down to the studio, the song already went to Hot 97. So, they already started playing it so it was already, you know, too late.”
Jay never got the chance to lay a verse down on the beat. He then went on to speak on the two most iconic diss tracks “Takeover” and “Ether.”
“‘Takeover’ is better than ‘Ether,’ but ‘Ether’ probably would be better than ‘SuperUgly.’ But, that’s not the battle. The battle really is ‘Takeover’ ‘Ether.'”
The beef between the two rappers is now non-existent. Back in 2014, Nas stated he doesnt even listen to the track anymore. During the interview, Biggs also spoke on his success in the music game.
