So sad. 19-year-old Kajuan Raye was shot and killed by a sergeant responding to a battery call in the Englewood District. According to the sergeant, Raye had “turned and pointed” a weapon twice during a foot pursuit. Ready for the plot twist? There was no weapon found at the scene!
During a press conference, Chicago Police Supt. Eddie Johnson said,
“We were not able to locate a weapon yet. There are still many unanswered questions.”
Raye’s family, including cousin Ahkeya White has been disputing the police’s timeline. White states,
“They are saying that it was, you know, a battery, but if that’s the case, the police officer showed up, it was only one person in the car. If they are responding to a call, why is it only one person in the car? Then you pull up to the bus stop. So something is off and we need answers.”
Activist all over are now demanding answers. This is such a tragic incident. Just when we thought things were getting better. May this young soul rest in peace.
