History has just been made again! Exceeding all expectations, ATCQ’s first album in 18 years comes in atop the charts debuting at number 1!
This is also the legendary group’s first number 1 album in 20 years since Beats, Rhymes, and Life, their classic set. Billboard is now reporting that the album sold 135,000 units in it’s first week of release via Epic Records, 112,000 of that being pure album sales.
The 20 years passed since Beats, Rhymes, and Life, also gives Tribe the longest stretch between no. 1 albums in hip-hop history. That record was previously broken a couple weeks ago, when Jeezy went no. 1 with Trap Or Die 3. His last album to hit number 1 was 2008’s The Recession.
We Got It from Here… Thank You 4 Your Service has achieved the third highest first-week sales of all hip-hop albums in 2016, only trailing Drake’s VIEWS (1.04 million) and Kendrick Lamar’s untitled unmastered (178,000). The Tribe just took the No. 3 spot from Future’s EVOL (134,000).
This only births the question now…are people really feeling our “older” music ? Are original “hip-hop heads” just coming out and supporting their day 1 artists over what’s being shoved down our throats today? First showing out for Jeezy, now Tribe…it seems “the older gen” hasn’t gone anywhere.
