The suit was initially filed by NY Attorney General, Eric Schneiderman. The suit came about as over 6,000 students of the defunct for profit university Donald Trump university felt scammed. The program promised to teach students the real estate techniques that Donald Trump himself used to become prominent in business. One of the selling points of the program was that Trump himself would be selecting the staff which would instruct students of the university. That allegedly turned out to not be true. In fact Trump suggested under oath in court proceedings that he was not very involved in the selection process of instructors.

The initial Trump university seminar was free but like most sales pitches there was a catch. After the initial seminar, students would be pitched about further instructional classes that cost a pretty penny. There were various types of classes. The “One year apprenticeship” (which was actually a three day seminar) cost $1495 according to court documents. Then there was a tier above the apprentice course called a “mentorship”. The cost for this was $10,000 dollars. There most expensive program offered was the “Gold Elite Program” which cost $35,000.

The suit guarantees that the students of the university be refunded about half of their losses. Of the $25 million, $4 million will go to the suit filed in New York and the rest will go to the suit filed in California. Trump took to twitter to announce the settlement of the suit. His tweets can be seen above in the gallery.
