Dam. Looks like we really won’t be seeing Frank at the Grammy’s next year…he says he’d rather pull a move like Colin Kaepernick with the national anthem, than sit in the audience and wait not to be the winner.
In a new interview with the NY Times, Frank opened up about his views on the historic music award academy and how out-dated he thinks it is:
“I think the infrastructure of the awarding system and the nomination system and screening system is dated. I’d rather this be my Colin Kaepernick moment for the Grammys than sit there in the audience.”
“That institution certainly has nostalgic importance. It just doesn’t seem to be representing very well for people who come from where I come from, and hold down what I hold down.” Frank also noted that Quincy Jones, Herbie Hancock, and Ray Charles have been the only black artists to win the coveted Album of the Year award.
Does Frank have a point? Is he calling a boycott to the Grammy’s? Do we need change in the system? We know that last year Kanye was more pissed than anyone after the awards show and actually had a meeting with The Recording Academy to discuss future changes. Maybe we’ll see something new this year. Til then, Frank’s not having it.
And honestly there’s so many great albums and songs to choose from how do you even pick one? I mean last year we had to choose in the rap category between J. Cole, Kendrick, and Dr. Dre. How do you do that lol
