Philadelphia Eagles receiver Josh Huff was arrested on the Walt Whitman Bridge after allegedly speeding with marijuana and a gun in his possession Tuesday morning.
Huff was reportedly traveling on the bridge, which connects Philadelphia and New Jersey. Unfortunately for him, he was stopped on the Jersey side. Possession of less than 30 grams of marijuana is not a criminal offense in Philadelphia. It became the largest city to decriminalize holding small amounts of the drug in 2014, New Jersey, however, did not follow suit.
It’s unknown if the gun in Huff’s possession is registered or if he has a permit, according to the report. The Camden County Prosecutor’s Office, which is reportedly investigating, was not immediately available for comment. The Eagles released a statement Tuesday, “We are aware of the incident today involving Josh Huff. At this point, we are gathering more information.”
25-year old Huff previously had a run-in with cops and was busted for driving while intoxicated and without a license when he was a 20-year old playing college ball at the University of Oregon four years ago. Huff was once again pulled over for speeding, but failed a field sobriety test, claiming he was never good with his balance, and that he was also affected by frigid temperatures that night. He was later acquitted.
Huff also took the NCAA to task while at Oregon, after a party he was planning to host and charge people to get into was shut down. In a string of Twitter rants, Huff complained the NCAA made money off him and his likeness, and was bothered he was being blocked from hosting the 2013 bash to make money for himself.
Huff’s arrest is additional bad news for an already disappointing Eagles receiving corps this season. He has 13 catches and a touchdown through seven games, returning a kickoff 98 yards for a touchdown two weeks ago against the Vikings, which earned him NFC Special Teams Player of the Week honors. His legal trouble could mean more issues for a unit that’s been plagued by drops the last two years.
