Kevin Gates will now be doing 180 behind bars for kicking a fan in the chest. Back in August of 2015, Gates was filmed kicking the fan in the chest while at his show in Lakeland, Florida. Gates says he was just protecting himself under the Florida “Stand Your Ground” law. He said Miranda Dixon repeatedly grabbed his shorts trying to get him off stage. Since his verbal message was not enough, he used physical force.
The same lawyer to represent Casey Anthony represented Gates. Jose Baez stated that Gates’s foot did not actually touch Dixon and she was attempting to gain damages in an upcoming civil trial.
He said,
“Her credibility is to be questioned and you will not be able to beyond and to the exclusion of every reasonable doubt in this case believe her and that is why you should enter a verdict of not guilty in this case,”
The jury was made up of six white women. The state tried to get Gates 60 days behind bars with probation. The judge decided to double that and allow Gates to get credit from any time served and also any court fines.
