Earlier this week, ESPN released a story about Draymond Green on how he can both be the reason the Warriors win the championship or could be the reason they don’t achieve the success they feel they should. It focused more on his personality and how it can be a good thing but also rub people in the organization the wrong way at times. Those aren’t the reasons we are talking about it today though. Some quotes in the story had Klay Thompson upset and he wasn’t shy about expressing himself about it.

The writer of the story claimed that former Warriors center, Marreese Speights, who now plays for the Clippers, told him that Draymond Green and Thompson would get into arguments and beef alot. He made it seem as if Green would pick on Thompson all the time and how it caused tension. When the story came out, Speights completely denied saying any of that and went on twitter to say so. The writer claims he has audio of Speights saying exactly that.
Thompson was more upset with an anonymous source in the story, reportedly from within the Warriors organization, that the team played like cowards in game 5 of the NBA finals without Green and it led them to losing the series.

“How are you not going to put your name to that quote?” he began. “It’s easy to point at someone and call them a coward, behind a shade or a shield you know? But why don’t you put your name to it, and then you can call us cowards. That’s fine. You can tell us that.
“But to say we played like cowards, and you’re not going to quote the guy who said it? That’s weak to me…That actually got under my skin, because I’m like, ‘You call us cowards but you’re not going to put your name to the (quote)?’ You know what I mean? You’re not going to quote who said it, just going to say ‘Oh, some executive said we’re cowards?’ Get out of here. That made me mad.”
“We played our hearts out that whole playoffs, the whole season, and then you’re going to call us cowards and not put your name on it,” Thompson said. “Get out of here.”
Thompson was also angry that the writer had no problem using Speights name for the story but kept the source of the cowards comments a secret. He has every right to be upset because now players on the team have to wonder who within the organization feels like that and smiles in their face anyway.
In another week this won’t even be an issues as the regular season will be underway and there won’t be as much downtime to worry about nonsense like this.
