A Los Angeles federal jury has cleared Derrick Rose and his two friends in a civil rape trial.
A woman was suing the New York Knicks star, claiming that he and his two friends gang-raped her while she was passed out drunk. She claims she was unable to give consent and was suing for $21.5 million.
Lawyers for Rose and his friends say the woman initiated and willingly participated in the group sex. They say she is lying to cash in on Rose’s wealth.
The eight member jury of six women and two men found Rose and his friends not liable. Jury deliberations took three hours.
A criminal investigation into the case is still pending, but now that they’ve been cleared in the civil case, it’s unlikely there’ll be a criminal trial for rape as civil cases are usually easier to win.
