Matthew Apperson has just been sentenced to 20 years in prison for attempted murder after he shot at George Zimmerman in a road rage incident. Apperson claims he shot in self defense. He claims due to Zimmerman’s intimidating reputation, especially for his fatal shooting of Trayvon Martin, he was in fear for his life.
A Seminole County jury had convicted Apperson of attempted second-degree murder, as well as shooting into an occupied vehicle and aggravated assault last month. Back in May 2015, Zimmerman and Apperson accused each other of starting the confrontation. Zimmerman said that Apperson was shooting without provocation. He also said Apperson seemed to be happy at the fact that he thought his bullet shot and killed him. In Florida, 20 years is the maximum sentence someone can get for shooting at another person. Kind of crazy due to the fact that George Zimmerman walked away a free man after he shot and killed Trayvon Martin.
