It’s been a strange week for heavyweight champion Tyson Fury. He pulled out of a fight scheduled for the end of October with Wladimir Klitschko without giving a real reason, only for his promoter to tell the media he was “medically unfit” as well as rumors of mental health issues. Today he got word he failed a recent drug test, where he tested positive for cocaine.

According to ESPN’s Dan Rafael, “England’s Fury submitted to a random urine test Sept. 22 in Lancaster, England, and those results came back positive for the substance benzoylecgonine, the central compound found in cocaine and the marker for a positive test for the banned substance”.
The testing was for the fight with Klitschko that he pulled out of anyway. He is likely to be stripped of his belts over the failed test. He has the right to appeal or have his “B” sample tested but he probably won’t.
With that fight being cancelled, added by these issues, it’s a good chance Fury won’t be in a boxing ring for quite a while.
