It was an emotional game as the Miami Marlins took on the New York Mets just one day after the death of star pitcher Jose Fernandez. After everyone paid tribute to Fernandez, Dee Gordon hit the most memorable home run of the 2016 season.
Gordon led off the bottom of the first inning for Miami, impersonating Fernandez’s batting stance from the right side of the plate. He then moved to his natural left side and did something that brought himself and everyone watching to tears. Gordon hit a home run, his first of the season. He sobbed as he made his way around the bases, wearing Fernandez’s name and jersey no. 16, like the rest of his teammates.

“I don’t have kids, so that’s best moment of my life to hit a home run for him,” said Fernandez.
