Once again Canelo Alvarez is guaranteeing that the fight against Gennady Golovkin aka Triple G is going to happen but we still have NO date or any significant movement in negotiations.
Canelo is currently in Dallas gearing up for this weekend’s fight against Liam Smith, the undefeated WBO light middleweight champion. If he wins that fight, GGG (36-0-0, 33 KOs) will be waiting. Gennady earned his 23rd consecutive knockout victory over formerly undefeated welterweight champion Kell Brook (36-1-0, 25 KOs) this past Saturday.
“There’s no doubt about it that fight’s gonna happen,” Alvarez told TMZ Sports through a translator.
Some critics, fans and even other boxers have accused Canelo of “ducking” Golovkin, but he says that’s not true.
“I’m 26 years old, I’ve never ducked nobody. I’ve fought the best in the world, I’ve never ran from nobody.”
Alvarez also says he currently considers himself the best fighter in the world, although it was a leading question and no boxer should answer any other way.
