Desiigner joins the likes of many “hip-hop artists” nowadays who don’t really claim to making “rap music” – because they know it’s not rap. It’s just mumbling or coming up with a catchy melody you can put on wax with a hard beat behind it and waalaah! you’ve got a hit. But he still does refer to himself as an artist.
In a video for TIDAL’s DNA series, Desiigner states:
None of my dudes I chill with are rappers. I don’t put us as rappers. We’re all artists. In the G.O.O.D. Music camp, we all come around and we show ourselves and present ourselves as artists only.”
I mean if you think Desiigner is truly a rapper, an MC, a lyricist, than you probably disagree with this whole post. But, let’s see, what do you think?
