Nykea Aldridge was pushing a baby stroller while walking with a man in Chicago when two other men approached and opened fire in the direction of the man. Aldridge, who is the cousin of Dwyane Wade, was hit in the head and shoulder and sadly pronounced dead at Stroger hospital. The baby in the stroller was thankfully unharmed.

*UPDATE*
Dwyane Wade responded on twitter to the news of his cousins’ murder, saying:
“My cousin was killed today in Chicago. Another act of senseless gun violence. 4 kids lost their mom for NO REASON. Unreal. #EnoughIsEnough”
Police reportedly have one person being questioned in relation to the shooting but so far no arrests have been made.

Making a tragic situation even worse is the fact she was on the way to register her children for school when the shooting occurred, according to Rev. Edward Jones Jr., a spokesman for the family.
Aldridge is the daughter of Wade’s mom’s sister, the pastor said. He said Aldridge had four children, the youngest just a couple weeks old.
“(She was a) Christian woman, a loving mother, and somebody who aspired to make a life for herself and her family,” Jones said.
“Even though this tragedy has hit our family, we will continue our focus to come against the violence in the city of Chicago,” Jones said. “We will continue to pray, and we ask for prayers as we pray for everyone who has to go through this type of violence.”
Wade is currently not in town and recently joined an ESPN roundtable talking about the violence plaguing the city of Chicago.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family. We will provide any updates when they become available.
