Most people in this country would jump at the chance to hang out with President Obama, especially if hanging out involves traveling together to Rio to watch some of the Olympic events. Tim Duncan is not one of those people though as he declined a personal invite from the POTUS but if you know him, it shouldn’t even be that surprising.

Duncan has always been one to avoid any type of spotlight or even enjoy the perks of being a pro athlete and apparently he doesn’t make exceptions even for one of the most powerful men in the world.
Former teammate Bruce Bowen explained in a recent interview with Sports Illustrated how all of this went down.
Tim, his legacy is always going to be more of the foundation guy in San Antonio and a guy that wasn’t ever concerned with the limelight, but more importantly concerned with others, making sure that they could really reach the most out of their potential.
It’s not often you find individuals like that. And it’s funny that he was offered an opportunity to fly here with the president of the United States, and he discussed it with me and I’m like, “You’re going, right?” He was like, “You know I’m not about that stuff.” Even that moment where you’d say, “I sure would like to be a part of that,” it doesn’t happen with Tim because he’s not concerned with that stuff.
There you have it. Not even President Obama could get Tim Duncan to step outside of his zone, so nobody should even bother asking in the future.
