29-year-old Timothy Batts was charged with killing his 11-year-old daughter, Timea as she came home from school. Batts tried to say some one else did it as she was walking home from the bus stop.
Police say they do not think the murder was premeditated so Batts will be facing reckless homicide charges. Batts said his daughter came home with a gun shot wound to her torso. He drove her to the hospital where she died. After investigating, police learned the little girl was shot inside of the home. Jeremy Johnson, a spokesperson for Sumner County Schools released a statement saying,
“Our entire school district is grieved to learn of the tragic loss of one of our sixth grade students, Timea Sashay Batts. Timea was a bright and kind girl who was well loved by her classmates and teachers.”
Batts was arrested on charges of reckless homicide, tampering with evidence, false reporting and possessing a firearm as a felon.
