The Weeknd gives back to his hometown of Toronto and helps move forward his Ethiopic culture, investing his dollars into the U of Toronto.
The Weeknd took to Twitter to reveal the opportunity to support Ethiopic studies at the Toronto school. His $50,000 donation towards the creation of an Ethiopic Studies program at the University of Toronto will reportedly fund a course on Ge’ez, the ancient language of Ethiopia, according to the Toronto Star.
The U of Toronto’s Ethiopic Studies program represents a partnership between the university and the Bikila Award, named after Olympic marathoner Abebe Bikila. The organization actually was hoping to raise the 50 grand, until The Weeknd came through and took care of the whole thing. Boss moves.
