Sad news out of the NFL this morning. Former Vikings & Cardinals head coach, Dennis “Denny” Green has passed away as a result of a heart attack. His friend confirmed the news to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Green is most famous for his rant as coach of the Cardinals after a Monday Night Football loss to the Bears but his time in Minnesota was very memorable as well, where he made a huge impact on the careers of both Cris Carter and Randy Moss.

Three coaches who worked under Green went on to become head coaches in the NFL in Tony Dungy, Mike Tice and Brian Billick, so he clearly had an impact on more than just players.

Green’s Vikings made eight playoff appearances in 10 seasons from 1992 to 2001, reaching the NFC Championship Game in 1998 and 2000. He led the Vikings to a 15-1 regular season in 1998 and ranks second in franchise history in games coached, wins and winning percentage, trailing Hall of Fame coach Bud Grant in each category.
