Despite a little controversy, Johnny Manziel was a star quarterback at Texas A&M and won the Heisman Trophy. When he entered the NFL, his partying and drinking increased while his production on the field decreased; he was eventually cut from the Cleveland Browns. He continued to travel and party full-time while vowing to make a comeback.
Manziel took to Twitter on Monday to ask Aggies fans for forgiveness and express his love and devotion to the school. The 23-year-old Manziel was replying after being tagged in a tweet by an A&M blog featuring video of his touchdown run against UTEP in 2013.
Manziel also posted a message on Instagram later Monday, assuring fans that his playing career isn’t over yet and he can come back.
In addition to being cut from the Browns, he was dropped by two agents with them along with numerous others asking him to go back to rehab to get a second round of treatment for drug and alcohol use.
He faces a misdemeanor assault charge that carries a penalty of up to a year in jail and a $4,000 fine after he was accused of hitting and threatening former girlfriend Colleen Crowley during a night out in January.
Even if he does make a comeback and is miraculously selected by an NFL team, he has been suspended for four games for violating the league’s substance-abuse policy, and faces more punishment concerning his domestic violence case as the league has enforced more rules following the Ray Rice case.
