Republican congressman Steve King, states he believes white people have contributed more than ‘subgroups’ to civilization which is crazy to me.
King said,
“This whole ‘white people’ business, though, does get a little tired, Charlie. I mean, I’d ask you to go back through history and figure out, where are these contributions that have been made by these other categories of people that you’re talking about? Where did any other sub-group of people contribute more to civilization?”
Chris Hayes had to clarify that statement by saying,
“Than white people?”
King retracted his statement and cleaned it up saying not white people in particular but Western civilization.”
“Than Western civilization itself that’s rooted in Western Europe, Eastern Europe and the United States of America and every place where the footprint of Christianity settled the world. That’s all of Western Civilization,”
Hayes then responded saying,
“For the record, if you’re looking at the ledger of Western civilization, for every flourishing democracy, you’ve got Hitler and Stalin as well. So there’s a lot on both sides. On cable news we’re not going to resolve the relative strengths of various strands of civilizational prowess.”
