Mayor De Blasio has just signed a bill that will allow free tampons and pads to be stocked in bathrooms at city schools and given out at homeless shelters and jails. New York is the first state to have free access to feminine hygiene products.
De Blasio says,
“Women deserve to live and work and learn with dignity and health and in comfort. That means acknowledging the basic fact that tampons and pads are not luxuries, they’re necessities
The schools have already started free feminine products inside of dispensers. Some students say lack of tampons or pads have caused them to miss class due to being embarrassed.
Mayelin Sanchez says,
“Many times I have felt uncomfortable and embarrassed, and I shouldn’t be because this is a natural process”
This was honestly a smart decision.
