Virginia native, Connor Golden, 18, and his two friends, Thomas Hinds and Matthew Stabile started their day in the park and climbed down a rocky area. Golden was the second man to reach the bottom and a large explosion went off. He’d stepped on what they believe was some kind of pressurized device Golden lost his foot Police believe that the explosion was a firework malfunction. The bomb squad checked the area on the fifth avenue side of the park as well as the victims car. Both friends denied having possession of any fireworks.
