While doing a report on a Police shooting in Boone, Iowa, Emmy Victor was approached by a woman who threw out many racial slurs. The woman even appeared to grab Victor who was clearly just doing her job. Authorities then figured out this was the mother of the person shot by police on Monday. This was the story that Victor and her partner, photojournalist Zachary Hayes, were covering.
The two were told to “get the fuck out of here” plenty of times while even being called the N word. The woman pointed her fingers in Victor’s face and even grabbed her arm. When the woman was told that the police would be called she made a comment telling them to call them so they cold shoot her too. She said,
“Come on right here. Tell them to come fucking shoot me.”
The station’s General Manager, Brian Sather, released a statement saying,
The safety of our crews is critically important as they cover stories affecting our communities. This morning Emmy and Zach demonstrated the utmost professionalism in the face of a very difficult, emotionally-charged situation.
