From opponents to teammates, it’s three against one as Draymond Green, Klay Thompson and Harrison Barnes all made the Team USA roster in addition to Kyrie Irving. The lone Cavalier has one big ally however, a championship ring and he plans to use it to gloat over the Warriors.
It’s been less than two weeks since going up against the Golden State Warriors in the NBA Finals, Irving has to now team up with three of it’s members as part of the 2016 USA Olympic basketball team. While Irving will likely be handing out assists to the three Warriors on the court, but while off it, he is planning on reminding them that the Cavaliers defeated them in the finals.
From Irving’s appearance on ESPN’s Mike and Mike on Tuesday (via SB Nation):
“There’s a connection that we all share that’s bonded for life of USA Basketball that allows us to be comfortable and being with one another. But, you know, there will be a few jabs thrown … because there are three Warriors on this team, and I am the current champion, so I will be throwing it in their faces.”
Helping the Cavs come back from a 3-1 deficit to defeat the best regular season team of all-time has definitely earned Irving bragging rights. However since they are all on the same team, Irving might wanna tone it down a notch in light of the bigger picture.
