Boston Celtics fans were poised to have a big draft night full of happy times. The team had three picks in the first round and looked set to expand upon the success of this past season, where they finished third in the eastern conference. Unfortunately the night quickly became a nightmare for fans gathered at TD Garden in Boston to watch the draft, as well as the fans who made the trip to Brooklyn. They were not shy about voicing their opinions in regards to the players general manager, Danny Ainge picked. Spoiler alert, they hated them all!

To be fair, most Celtics fans were likely upset due to the fact they simply weren’t educated about who the players were but it’s also fair to say they were right to expect more from Ainge.
After they selected California forward, Jaylen Brown with the number three overall pick, this was the reaction back in Boston.

With the 16th pick, The Celtics selected perhaps the player with the best name in the draft in Guerschon Yabusele, a Frenchman who probably should’ve gone in the second round. Don’t expect the 6’8 forward to be here in the states anytime soon. They followed that up by drafting another international player, Ante Zizic from Croatia with the 23rd pick and by then, their fans had just had it.

One of Boston’s biggest sports fans, Bill Simmons, probably summed it up best with how fans were feeling when he tweeted “The Celtics just took the 7th pick in the draft at no. 3 and used no. 16 on a French guy sitting in the stands. I’m gonna make a drink”
For what it’s worth, Boston did make some good picks in the second round in Notre Dame point guard, Demetrius Jackson, as well as versatile Providence forward, Ben Bentil. As you might expect though, that doesn’t make fans in Beantown feel any better but that will change if at least Brown can perform early. His quote last night where he said “He’ll go to war for this city” should at least get the fans on his side.
