At the time of Big L’s death, his suspected killer was Gerard Woodley. L’s music was and still is living in the hearts of many today. In the mid 90’s Big L was considered to be the next big thing. Unfortunately his life and career would come to a halt on Febuary 5th, 1995 when he was shot and killed on 139th street in Harlem. Woodley was a child hood friend of L’s and a few years after the shooting, (1999 to be exact) Woodley, was scooped up by the police and arrested as a suspect. Woodley would later on be released by the city for lack of evidence. Still the smoke still followed the fire that was the murder of Big L and he, Woodley, was seen by many as the one who lit the match. However till this day the murder is technically unsolved.
But in 2010, Big L’s older brother spoke on the murder of L and implicated Woodley. His side of the story is that Big L was not the target of Woodley but rather it was a case of mistaken identity. Apparently the target was another brother of L’s named Lee. L however made the fatal mistake of wearing Lee’s Chain which caused the him to be mistaken for him. Woodley over the years had also been suspected of four other murders but none of them stuck. Some may call the passing of Woodley Karma. You know .. live by the gun … die by the gun but thats not what life is supposed to be. In the end no life no matter the mistakes made by that person deserves to be taken. Prayers and condolences to the loved ones of both Big L and Gerard Woodley.
